In fact, we like to say the three most important words in small business IT are “backups”, “backups” & “backups”. We believe strongly in a few key principles for creating a sound backup and disaster recovery plan:

• Redundancy – Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.  This principle applies to server hard drives and backing up of data.
• No humans – Never rely on people to back up your data because they are expensive and unreliable!  If the backup strategy calls for someone to regularly change tapes or manually copy data, they are bound to forget when you need it most.
• Versioning – It’s not enough to simply back up data, you need to keep previous versions of files to be able to revert back to the specific moment in time you need.
• Imaging – Most IT providers just back up the data files and omit important server programs and configurations. We use disk imaging technology to capture everything, so you can be up and running quickly in the event of a failure.
• Off-site – All data you need to run your business should go off-site daily.  Threats like theft, fire, flood and earthquakes don’t happen very often, but when they do it’s usually without warning.
• Monitoring – It’s not enough to occasionally check that backups are working correctly.  We are notified if a backup fails which helps eliminate gaps in protection.
• Verification – We not only monitor your backups, we regularly test back ups to make sure the data is available when you need it most.
